Purpose of the Award
On the one hand The Else Kooi Award aims to honor recent work and to stimulate initiatives that focus on knowledge and creativity in the field of microelectronics in the Netherlands. More specifically it concerns research in the area of semiconductors and IC design enterprise. On the other hand the Award aims to honor dr. Else Kooi for his outstanding achievements in the field of Microelectronics.

   

History
The Else Kooij Award has been established by three research institutes: DIMES, MESA and Philips Research Eindhoven. The three institutes organised together the European Solid State Device Research Conference (ESSDERC ’95). This Conference is a leading conference in the field of microelectronics. The conference has been organized for the first time in the Netherlands in 1995. This was the 25th edition of this annual conference.

The EESDERC ’95 was supported by DIMES, MESA and Philips Research Eindhoven as well as the Dutch industry active in the field of microelectronics. After the conference, an amount of 100.000,- Dutch Guilders (€ 45.380,-) was reserved to establish an award named after dr. Else Kooi. The prize money has been supplemented with € 50.000,- in 2005 and with € 19.500, in 2016 by NXP Semiconductors.
